FAQs

What do you mean by awakening?

Awakening means different things to different people. What I am referring to when I use the word awakening, is recognizing the alert, open awareness which is always here and which both reveals and pervades our experience of everything which appears within it. This involves awakening out of our conditioned pattern of perceiving separation and regarding ourselves and our world as things. And, this, in turn includes awakening politically.

For most of us awakening proceeds from our first glimpse of our natural state, through returning to that recognition many, many times and thus, learning to rest as this clear, open presence in our daily lives; through relying on awareness as the source of our responses to life until, we live from and as this clear openness and spontaneously responsive presence 24-7. Awakening takes each of us as long a time as it does regardless of our aspiration and impatience, it seems.

What's involved in awakening?

In brief, awakening involves noticing what is always here and turning attention toward that rather than the changing content we are usually focused upon. We experientially  notice and get curious about the silent presence of awareness that pervades all of our experience. As a result, we purify or deconstruct the patterns of identification and world views of the central character in our mind's discursive narrative about ourselves as a separate one. Exiting our version of the matrix like this profoundly changes our sense of ourselves, our sense of others and our understanding of our shared world.

As our awakening proceeds, we become increasingly clear, present, connected and empowered as the one we most essentially are and our conditioned identities no longer semi-consciously dominate our walk through life. In one sense the whole process is one of purifying our nervous system from its conditioned patterns and re-tuning ourselves to the underlying resonances of our ever-present but overlooked, natural state of silent, open clarity.

At this point, there are quite a number of simple practices and skills which facilitate each stage of this process.

Trauma, Stress and Conditioning

We have all been impacted by the circumstances, relationships and events of our lives both in ways that support our fullest development and in ways which compromise our functioning. These impacts shape our various neurological subsystems including our clarity, our ability to learn and gain access our innate intelligence, our psyche, our neuro-musculature, and our capacity to be in relationship.

We may be so familiar with these limitations of our default setting that we fail to notice them as limitations at all until they are cleared and we find ourselves happier, clearer, more connected, more present and more engaged.

Can the effects of trauma really be cleared?

Yes. We now know several effective ways of rapidly clearing the effects of trauma including clearing the ways traumas and relational wounds have shaped our underlying beliefs. Sometimes, however, clearing trauma may require some dedicated and skillful work over time. Fortunately, there are skill sets, practitioners and technologies that help with this.
